The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of characters living within the afterlife, sets them at odds with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
