The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Partnership.

We present a dare for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate the horror genre: Get comfortable with your loved one and view Together. This independent film success of 2025 just made its online premiere on Hulu. At first glance, it might appear like conventional physical horror, but inside Together exists a intense contemplation about how we choose to love one another.

A Directorial Debut Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together represents the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the actors infuse a unique chemistry to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The plot commences when Tim and Millie relocate from the big city to the country for professional reasons. A familiar story element, of course, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim fall into an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity begins influencing the couple. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying horror experience, interspersing moments of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but never too gross) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). The director skillfully blends these components seamlessly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to focus on anything other than his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and removed from his social circle. He fears the notion of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in Together refrains from painting Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie confront the type of challenges that are inherent in long-term unions a decade in. At their core, they continue to care for one another. They still laugh together, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the metaphor does not come across as overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights serve the other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that unattached audience members have interpreted the film as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could function as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the finale plant a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you identify in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply turn to your significant other and state, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can embark on today.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu at present.
